Resident’s Rights Group wants to ensure residents have a voice that is heard and that tourists are treated well and appreciated.

We are against the Tourism Development Fee, a 1% tax on purchases (excluding unprepared food) that residents and tourists pay.    

 

80% of the Tourism Development tax funds goes to the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. This is projected to be about $20 million for 2016. We would prefer this money go to adult city residents instead of to the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. This equates to $1,000 per adult if there are exactly 20,000 adult residents in the city.
